Deacon Ministry

The Deacon Ministry Vision Statement is as follows: The vision and passion of the Deacons is to build Christian Community by making strong connections for Jesus Christ through ministries of communication, prayer and care.

A Deacon has two areas of responsibility. The first responsibility is to provide pastoral care to and promote community among the congregation. Secondly, Deacons support each other as they minister to the congregation. These responsibilities are generally satisfied by active participation in the Parish Ministry, which include and identify pastoral care needs through contacts with parishioners and building community in terms of Deacons, parishioners, and HPPC within the parish itself. Deacons are regularly in prayer for their parishioners.

Deacons are encouraged to prayerfully consider the need to participate in the Greeting/Guest Connection/New Member Assimilation Ministries or as a member of the Invitations Response (Red Lanyard) Team at church services.

As a way of supporting fellow HPPC Deacons, active participation in monthly Deacon Team Meetings and The Third Thursday Deacon Dinners are strongly encouraged. These meetings offer opportunities for Deacons to care for fellow Deacons, encourage other Deacons in their Deacon activities and recognize, celebrate and contribute complementary talents and spiritual gifts toward the success of these activities.
