Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How does my commitment to the church’s operating budget relate to The Foundation?
A. The Foundation’s Trustees fervently assert that gifts to The Foundation should not conflict or compete with annual support of the church’s budget.  A member’s commitment to support the church budget each year is one’s paramount financial responsibility.

Q. Why give to the Foundation?
A    A corollary financial responsibility of the HPPC member is to help assure the future of God’s Kingdom will be strengthened in the world.  The Foundation provides an opportunity for people to make a personal lasting gift and contribution to the Body of Christ to accomplish that.  We call it a gift in perpetuity.

Q. How does that happen?
A. There is a fundamental difference between the operating budget of the church and the funds allocated to the Foundation.  The church operating budget provides for current operating expenses and current benevolences out of the funds received from members’ annual commitments.  On the other hand, the Foundation accumulates the funds it receives into a permanent corpus which is invested for income.  The resulting income is used to fund the Christian causes approved by Foundation Trustees and to fund the operating expenses of the Foundation.

Q.  What does it mean when you say Christian causes approved by Foundation Trustees?
A. The Foundation supports Christian causes exclusively. These may include benevolences, missions, programs and capital improvements. The Foundation encourages the making of gifts supporting these causes as the Board of Trustees may determine. Donors of amounts above a designated minimum may indicate preferences to which income from their gift may be applied. All gift recipients are subject to approval by the Foundation’s Trustees.

Q. You deal with “planned giving” extensively on the website. What about assets over and above my planned gifts which I wish to give currently?
A. The Foundation accepts current gifts regularly as well as planned gifts. Current gifts are invested on a permanent basis as well with the income providing support to Christian causes in perpetuity. See the Planned Giving section in this HPPC website.
