RE: Proposed Parking Plans at Highland Park Presbyterian Church
To all interested parties,
The
following is an update concerning the proposed parking lot here at Highland
Park Presbyterian Church. As you may know, over the past year, HPPC has hosted
meetings with neighbors to discuss our plans for improving our facilities and
specifically the need for parking. This has included two public meetings with
neighbors, two smaller meetings with neighborhood leaders, and the recent meeting
on January 12th of the Session (governing body) of HPPC. At this meeting,
the Session hosted a number of neighborhood leaders and listened to their
concerns and ideas for alternatives.
Two nights ago, the Session of HPPC met again to discuss the next step in this
project. At this meeting, the Construction Management Team (three elders
assigned by the Session to manage the facility and ministry enhancement
projects over the last year) presented parking solution options, the chronology
of meetings with our neighbors, and a summary of the concerns and suggested
alternatives expressed by neighbors at the meetings that HPPC has hosted. They
also recommended that the Session form a task force to finalize a plan for a
parking lot based on one of the proposed solutions.
In response to this recommendation, the Session will form a task force made up
of several members of the church. This will include an invitation to a member
who lives in the neighborhood. This task force will continue to research,
inquire and develop plans for a parking area that is park-like, as beautiful as
possible, and enhances the neighborhood. They will report back to the Session
in 60 days. If at this time the Session decides to move forward with the
recommendation, a request for rezoning will be filed with the City of
University Park.
