Why should I join an LTG?

Through participation in an LTG, you will see transformation in yourself, your LTG friends, and the people who your LTG prays for.  You will read Scripture in context and in community, build friendships and character through sharing life in mutual support, prayer, and confidentiality, and pray for friends that they may be drawn to God.

When and where do LTG’s meet?

LTG's meet for one hour a week at a time and location determined by the group. Outside of the weekly meetings, group members will be responsible for Scripture reading on their own.

Why only 2-4 people?

Trust, confidentiality, and intimacy are essential to an LTG and maintaining a small number of people help foster this kind of environment.  Also, during a one hour session there simply isn’t enough time for more than 2-4 people to be involved in the conversation.

Getting Started

Individuals forming a group might commit to a LTG for a specific time (e.g. 3-6 months). At the end of the time group members may recommit or decide to disband. The success of a LTG depends on the level of trust developed between the participants.

Meeting

Typical One Hour Meeting

Life Transformation Groups (LTGs) are two or three people of the same gender meeting weekly to accomplish three things:

  1. to Discuss their daily Bible reading
  2. to Ask each other character-building questions that stimulate conversation of character and confession of sin in a safe environment that values honesty, vulnerability, confidentiality, and grace.
  3. to Pray for pre-Christian family and friends

Bible Reading

  • Each group selects how much Bible reading they will do.
  • The week’s reading assignment is repeated until EVERYONE in the group completes it in one week.
  • The number of chapters per week varies with the groups, but ranges from 10 chapters to 28 chapters per week.
  • If the group is reading a book of the Bible with fewer chapters – e.g. James – they may read the book through two or three times in one week.

One Hour Guideline

The following questions are offered only as a resource to guide the 1-hour weekly meetings, and are not required.  One hour goes very fast, and if everyone participates and all three goals are pursued, the hour will seem short, yet very productive.

Part I:
What are you Learning? (God)
What have you learned about God in your personal Bible reading this past week?  How has the Bible shaped the way you think and live?
What have the Scriptures revealed in your life this week?
What encouragement have the Scriptures given you in your daily walk?

Part II:
How are you Following? (Self)
What is the condition of your soul?
What is God teaching you?
What are you going to do about it?
What have you held back from God that you need to surrender?
How have you experienced God in your life this week?
How are you, in your life (marriage, job, etc) demonstrating that God is at work in your life?
Where does God want you to change?

Part III:
Who will you Disciple? (Others)
What opportunities did God give you to serve others since our last meeting? What happened?
For what non-Christian friends can we pray?

Prayer

  • Some time at each meeting is devoted to pray for the members of the group as well as specific friends and family to grow close or closer to Christ.
  • Each person in the group should identify two or three people for whom they are praying and share these names with the group.
  • Each group member commits to pray for each of these people everyday – as well as during the group meeting.

How do I get involved?
