Theology & Philosophy
With an attitude of gratitude... that's how we approach God in our stewardship of time, commitment and what we do with our money. The decision is yours. Highland Park Presbyterian Church is blessed with many opportunities for you. Throughout the church there are numerous ministries, which are supported by your stewardship pledges and your active participation. Some of these ministries and their current activities are described here on these web pages. Take a look and see what interests you.
What we give to God is not just our spare time or what money is left in the check book toward the end of the month. He desires our first fruits in our tithes and offerings. When we set our priorities for worship and service first, then the other things in life can fall into proper perspective. God loves a cheerful giver, and a cheerful giver seems often to have plenty of reason to be glad. To honor Jesus Christ is to bring meaning and fulfillment to our individual lives and to our church.
Faith building, not fund raising
We believe God is far more interested in your faith than your money. And naturally when the first happens, the second follows. Jesus tells us, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21) The Lord has created our hearts to love, and you cannot truly love until you give it away. This applies to your loving in time, in talent, and in treasures.
Giving with the end in mind
More than a mindset, it is a heartset. "We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18) Growth is a process; and growing the grace of giving happens over time. Allow God to lead you as you grow in your faith and respond in your giving and serving.
Sacrificial
God's attitude in giving is expressed in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son." Note the sequence: Because God loved, He gave. This divine example of giving motivated by love was set for us to follow.
So follow your heart, and experience the joy that comes from responding to love.
