He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. - Deuteronomy 10:18
HPPC is partnering with For the Nations: Refugee Outreach to welcome the foreigner into our city. Dallas is one of the top cities in the U.S. in receiving refugees. Truly the nations we are called to reach are within our reach.
Refugees are people who have fled their country of origin and who cannot return to their home due to fear of persecution based on their race, religion, ethnic group, or membership in a particular social or political group. They are assigned to a new location and come with no or very limited language skills or any support system for understanding how to navigate this culture for themselves or their children.
Teach English. Volunteer to assist in teaching English classes once a week for 2 hours. No experience necessary. Childcare is provided for children ages 0-5. Monday-Thursday from 9-11 am or Tuesday-Friday from 12:15-2:15 pm. Register.
Kids Club. Volunteer with Kids Club After School. Monday-Thursday from 4-6pm (children ages 6 and up welcome to join parents, youth can volunteer along beginning at age 15). Register.
Welcome Teams. Welcome Teams are groups of 10-15 volunteers that are assigned to a refugee family who will newly arrive in the US. The Welcome Team fulfills initial setup responsibilities and forms a relationship with the refugee family that can optionally extend beyond the initial 3-week post-arrival commitment. Currently, we are looking for complete welcome teams with a volunteer leader whose members all attend the same church. Register.
